Holidays to Acireale, Sicily |
Acireale
is a sophisticated town with interesting architecture and several ornate
churches. There are winding streets to wander down and admire the local
life. There are many shops that are full of Italian fashion and speciality
shops, such as fine pottery and gift shops.
A popular place for the Sicilians to promenade is in the park that overlooks the sea. Here you can relax in the shade of the trees and watch everyone walking by.
Acireale has lovely outside cafes and restaurants. One restaurant in particular is called Sotto Il Convento (Under the Convent) and the Italian food served here is absolutely wonderful, having a range of sea food, pizzas and pastas. The restaurant is in the grounds of an old convent and when we were there in February one year, there was an Arabian tent with comfortable seating where you could go and sit and relax after your meal. It was wonderful and very atmospheric with candles and small heaters.
Every
February a lively festival is held, where
everyone comes out in the streets and party's. The local saint is paraded
down the street and there are decorated floats, sweet stalls, soft toy stalls
and many other attractions.
