Holidays to Giarre, Sicily

Ceramic shopsLying at the foot of Mount Etna, Giarre is a thriving and popular town. In the centre of Giarre is a magnificent church called Il Duomo. The town square is next to the church and people meet here to watch the world go by. The local buses also stop here. Opposite the church are many banks and the main shopping street called Corso Italia, which has many small local shops that are very varied and interesting. The shops have large jars outside their doors and this originates from the fact that Giarre is named after the Greek for pot. Pots and jars were made here in Greek times and this tradition continues.

Down the Corso Italia is the train station (Tel - 095 93 21 81) and here information about the Circumetnea train can be found.

On the road towards Acireale there is an enormous supermarket called Emmezeta, well worth a visit just to look at the different variety of food available.
