Holidays to Sant Alfio, Sicily |
This town gets top marks for welcoming foreign visitors. They have links
to Australia and England. The town is friendly and vibrant. There is the
very famous Chestnut tree of a hundred horses (Castagno Dei Cento Cavalli).
The legend says that it sheltered one hundred horses and their riders as
they escorted Queen Giovanna d’Aragona when they were out hunting.
Sant’Alfio has a small museum of wine which is interesting as the
town is famous for its wine. It holds a festival of Etna - Wines in October
and November and it is a member of the National Association of Wine towns.
The locals are very proud that the famous singer Mick Hucknall has a vineyard
in the region.
Festivals
Other festivals include the Feast of Saint Biagio in February,the Nordic
Ski meeting,the Feast of Saints Alfio, Cirino and Filadelfo In April and
May. Also in May is the Festival of the Mountain to promote Etna with a
series of exercusions. Etna Music has various events from July until September
and at Christmas there is the Sounds and Lights of Christmas.

dishes set in pleasant surroundings of a 17th Century Benedictine convent.
