Italian Wine
The fertile slopes of Mount Etna are perfect for wine production. There are many large vineyards that will sell their wines to the public. You will see the Sicilians with containers that look like petrol cans, yet these are for filling up with wine.
Made
by your local vineyard...
Sometimes you may see road signs saying “Vino Padronale” and
this is where local people have produced their own wine and they will sell
it out of their own barrels. The house wine in restaurants usually is from
the local vineyards. It comes in a carafe and is different to wine you would
usually have from a bottle. It seems much fresher and fruitier.
Wine is very cheap at about 1,50 Euro
a litre
from the locals and vineyards.
Festivals
of Wine
Many towns belong to an organisation called Citta del Vino and you will
see their signs. Many have festivals of wine
especially in October and November when there is the grape harvest or Vendemmia.
Some towns join together in February to celebrate Snow and wine.
At these festivals there is wine tasting,
walks and visits
and everyone is welcome!
You can also read more about the tastey Italian Food on offer. From swordfish to pizza, no doubt the locals can recommend a bottle that will go with your meal nicely.
