Water Parks

One water park is found just outside Catania, called Etnaland, and it provides an exciting day out (next door to the park is a small zoo). When the Sicilians visit the park they really enjoy themselves and it is a delight to see. The whole family including grandparents go for the day.

The venue has a very large car park and so is able to cater for large numbers of people. To enter follow the Sicilians as they go towards the turnstiles. You can book an umbrella and sunlounger and you will be given a ticket with a number on (that is your umbrella number). It is a good idea to book an umbrella because there is not much shade inside and it can get extremely hot as you wait for slides or walk between the different pools. Also take beach shoes as the floor is really hot under the sun. Everyone leaves their shoes at the edge of the water and it is quite comical as you try to find them again when you get out.

Once inside there are many different sized pools and water slides and activities. There are adult pools, children’s pools, pools with wave machines, Also there is aqua aerobics and every now and again an impromptu disco will start up and the Sicilians will join in with the dancing. The changing facilities are good and there is a restaurant and café inside the grounds. There are lifeguards, first aid centre and a lost child post. If you take your children and you don’t speak Italian and are worried about losing them, don’t worry, the Italians will find someone who speaks English to help you out. The welfare of children is very important to them.

Water Sports
At all the main beach resorts like Fondachello, Mazzaro, Letojani, Cefalu, there are organised water sports activities such as water skiing, wind surfing, jet skiing and sailing.

Swimming
The sea around Sicily is not tidal and so is different to Great Britain. The sea is clear and easy to swim in. The Sicilians love to swim and often will venture out to rocks. In the summer under the hot sun , the cool refreshing sea is a welcome relief.
